The text of “I Have Seen the Lord” is an original one written by the composer. It is inspired by the message Mary Magdalene brought to the disciples on Easter day after she had seen Jesus: the Latin refrain reads “I have seen the Lord God!” Each of the three stanzas expounds upon the impact the Resurrection has on the life of the Christian.

For much of this piece, the music maintains an irregular meter, reflecting the breathless joy with which Mary would have brought the good news. The chorus is supported by a constant call of “Alleluia”; this “Alleluia” is carried through to the end in a rejoicing crescendo.
